Battletech Set 9 WIP 2 by Amuscaria Battletech Set 9 WIP 2 by Amuscaria
Another set of mechs for the winter break. Hadn't got to draw much of anything over the entire semester, so plenty of ideas to go on. :)

EDIT: Removed the messy BG from the Inquisitor.

1) Inquisitor: Invictus: A 65 ton WoB omni-mech based on the Rifleman. The Invictus (Variant A) is armed with 4 Light PPCs, 2 Medium Pulse Lasers, 2 Small Pulse Lasers, 2 LMGs, and a flamer. It can Jump 6 hexes with it's 6 improved Jumpjets.

2) Yurei (Satyr): Based on my earlier Goryo mech, this is a clan scout mech of 25 tons. It has 2 ER medium lasers, 2 Micro Pulse Lasers, a heavy medium laser, a TAG, an Active Probe and ECM suite. The base movement of 9/14 is further enhanced by its MASC unit.

Love em!
Question... Have you ever played armored core?

nope. Well I played the first one at Best Buy at one of those demo-Play Stations machines a long time ago, as a kid. :P

Inquisitor:
4/6/6 (iJJs), 260 Light Fusion (??), Endo IS, and 12.0 tons of armor?
Nice!

Although I want to be a bit evil with it, drop the armor slightly so I can give it a Compact Gyro, and TSM. Might not help it much for punching (kicks on the other han...err, foot...), but being able to sprint around at 5/8/6 just makes me smile.

I don't think a mech can punch without arms? Not sure though. I guess it could kick, still.

I'm liking the Inquisitor, though I must admit I feel like I'm looking at a robot from One Must Fall

Head on the Yurei looks like the old Wasp, AKA Valkyrie VF-1J

So is the cockpit torso-mounted, and the head a sensor turret, or is it just a really awesome-looking radar thingy?

I put most of the humanoid mech cockpits in the chest, since it the only place that a full grown person would realistically fit. Since there is no real consensus as to what counts as the "head" or "Center Torso" in CBT, i can technically put it anywhere I want. The "head" in this case are just sensors and cameras. That way the pilot still "sees" what the head sees with no vantage point changes.

i.e. Thor/Summoner has cockpit on the right torso, yet it's not mentioned anywhere in the fluff.

Okay, so you're doing it "Gundam style". I get that.
I think the real difference in head versus torso cockpits is that real torso-mounted cockpits don't really have windows, while the normal viewports on the head are usually left there to denote sensors.

I know it looks like the Summoner/Thor has a side-torso cockpit, but really what you're looking at is the whole head assembly. The head can be anywhere on the torsos, but it's still a head in that it has its own critical slots and armor points.

Putting the cockpit in the torso itself is a trade-off (everything is in BattleTech, honestly). Whichever torso you put the cockpit in will have fewer critical slots because of it, while the cockpit benefits from heavy torso armor protecting it. I think maybe armor is somewhat reduced as well, but it's still a lot more than the head ever had.

Take a look at XTRO: Corporations. There's a Quickdraw in there with a torso-mounted cockpit, and its head is converted to a turret.

The rules about where the cockpit actually is only matters for the game, and doesn't really reflect the art. The way BT's game rules make drawing a 'mech that follows those rules rather silly in the first place, I tend to just ignore them and go with whatever looks best.

I like this a lot, the only thing is that it gets very busy around the bottom of the left arm, and it's a bit tough to make out where the mech ends and background begins, and trying to see just how the arm bends that far based on the structure. Nothing distracting, and certainly not a big deal. Pose is fluid, and the attitude in the "face"...awesome, love the carnage in the scene!!!!

Nice job!!!

TY. :D Yes the BG is indeed a mess. I was planning on removing it. Shading the mech might help, but my art computer is busted. :/
