Color practice junk - 1 by Amuscaria Color practice junk - 1 by Amuscaria
Haven't drawn anything in months. Combined with school and doing nothing but math and circuit or materials analysis of engineer-related systems, totally destroyed my motivation to draw.

Decided to try and break the art-block with some attempt at coloring some doodle. As usual, still not quite understanding how to shade in color yet, especially with non-white-light sources.

Resurrected an ancient character (Ring) of mine, since I couldn't thing of anything else to do.

Still trying to figure out how to approach this picture. The problem with coloring, is that it's hard to learn from someone else's work. As understanding can only be discovered for one self, looking at the finished results does very little to help. I've always found it hard to find any good references since the poses are so specific, as the location and lighting. :/

Gonna take a while to finish this, but at least I'm chiseling away at this art-block bit by bit by using my right-brain hemisphere again. Damn you differential equations. Damn you for giving me art blocks every semester! :(

i got an idea....

look at this pic.
[link]

try to darken the shadow side to almost pitch black...

there is a lot of light on her belly while there is no "visible" lightsource from that corner...

maybe you can do something with it? :)

i think you did a really good job here. but you need a better establishment from where the light is coming from. if its coming from the top left then the bottom-left side needs to be shaded darker and you need to brighten her leg and switch the shades on her arm or it confuses where the lighting is. Tho, if the lighting is coming from multiple directions, the all you have to do is shrink some of the shadows. but i like it lol

The lower lights are reflected from the grass, which has yet to be colored.
