Otohime Class - Battlecruiser by Amuscaria Otohime Class - Battlecruiser by Amuscaria
A WIP

Decided to play with Google Sketchup again, now that I have free time and wanted to take another whack at designing a spaceship in 3D. Definitely not a medium I'm used to, but it's fun and entertaining.

Wanted to design this ship for months, but due to school and a general inability to draw spaceships by hand forced me to wait until now to use GSU. The shape certainly came out how I wanted, although I'm still not sure how to detail the thing yet. I'll have to work out a personal style of detailing first.

-EDIT: Moved the VLS system to the back (might remove it all together later), added 2 top-deck railguns, and some more details added.

I'm really liking this so far, few things are coming to mind, not so much the visual aspects as much as Mechanical ones, but hey, every bit helps right?

The front-most Double Capital Railgun will have some aiming issues dealing with the from Wing Panels. You can either build more of a platform for the Turret to sit on so it's barrels clear the wing panel of you can just snip off the portion sticking down either on just the bottom or both top and bottom.

I love VLSs as much as the next guy, but I'm iffy on how you've set it up. To me it seems liek you could get a more efficient system by using less launchers with a better reloading system, admittedly you lose out on being able to properlly saturate a target's defences, but by using less launchers you can also spread them out ont eh ship more so they are less likely to all get taken out but a single hit.

Also in general there doesn't seem to be much in terms of offensive firepower on the top of the ship, aside from the VLS(thought they can target anything regardless of relative position). I would take one the frontal Capital Railgun Turrets and just flip it so it's on top instead of on the bottom, it still provides the same ammount of firepower in the ship's optimal facing(forwards, thanks to the Mass Accelerators) but provides more coverage all round.

Also not to nit-pick, but for the specifications it would be better to say "5 Dual Heavy Capitol Railguns" instead of 10, as you only have 5 turrets with 2 Barrels each, saying 10 makes it sound like you have 10 turrets with 2 barrels each.

Regardless this is still a very interesting design and it brigns to mind Space Marine Ships from the BattleFleet gothic 'verse in terns of general design, but thats most likely just the Wing Panels that are doing that for me xD

Now that's a very sweet design, definitely looks like a battleship with some power. The aerofoils on the extremities are an especially nice touch. The turrets are especially nice to look at as well.

You very clearly had a strong picture in your head when you made this puppy, and it shows through quite well.

I've never seen a cruiser quite like this one either, although i've got to say my brains sees the aerofoils and thinks tie fighters because george lucas programmed my brain, but they're used in such a novel way at the end of those large fat pylon structures that it's far more attractive.

I've got no experience with Google Sketchup so I couldn't comment on the technique, but I will sat I rather enjoy some of your novel design approaches, so I'll score appropriately.

Looking at this, I've got a very strong sense of this thing as absolutely massive, and it's very easy to picture legions of tiny little ships trying to swarm it and being swarmed by anti-air turrets while this thing wheels about ignoring the swarm of gnats buzzing about it and starts gutting a few corvettes with those rail guns of its.

Easiest one I've found so far. But it really depends on what you mean by "easier". It doesn't give the the precise control that other professional 3D programs gives, and certainly doesn't allow for the amount of detail. But if you want to make some basic objects, it's a good program to get. For beginners, it makes the most intuitive sense.
