Warhammer 40K - Battlesuit by Amuscaria Warhammer 40K - Battlesuit by Amuscaria
A commission for a Warhammer 40K stye battlesuit - a variant of a previous one I designed for the same customer. Not sure how authentic this looks - never drew much WH40K before and never immersed myself in much of that franchise.

This is the first digitally inked mecha I've done. Took a very long time, but it doing it this way does have many benefits over my usual paper+ink route. hopefully it will become faster as I gain more experience.

now stuff like this should be given to elite guardsmen

You know, as everyone (justifiably) says that this doesn't look like imperium, I like to think that this is Archeotech that some Inquisitor got his hands on. A nearly Unique piece of tech one could and probably would get killed for possesing.
Angrislaug Featured By Owner Feb 21, 2015  Hobbyist Artist
they stole tau tech? well at least they are putting it to better use than they are..except Commander Farsight, he has balls.
looks awesome.

Freaking AWESOME!
chronozon937 Featured By Owner Edited Aug 16, 2014
It needs some kind of melee weapon, needs to look more blocky, and more religious iconography. And more dakka, you don't have enough.
NikitaTarsov Featured By Owner Aug 8, 2014  Hobbyist Artist
Looks cool, but cool and shiny stuff is heresy!!
No joke, the imperials have it´s old, ugly and chunky stuff, and everything new is forbidden.....

But my congrats to the mix of imperial and modern designs, the marines would love to use this........would xD

this shit ROCKS
RodesHexis Featured By Owner Mar 12, 2014
It looks really cool but not very authentic. Perhaps you should have done a little research before throwing an Aquila on the suit. This does look like something from the Tau empire in the 40k universe but it certainly isn't a Space marine "battlesuit".

I'm not bashing your design. It looks fantastic!
bibotot Featured By Owner Mar 20, 2014
Heresy! There are Space Marine Battlesuit, too. They are Dreadknight and Centurion. The Inquisition also makes use of their own variants.
Nyarlathotep001 Featured By Owner Apr 6, 2014
neither looks like that though

Just say it's Warhammer 50k and call it a deal.

This is really neat :) I never liked how stiff and blocky the technology in Warhammer 40k looked - Here you've managed to make something that looks high-tech and engineered while still keeping the core aesthetic. Very cool :D

Is this what happens if the imperium gets Tau Technology they make this.

Is the person in the suit a guardsman or someone who went to the schola
epicfaillol Featured By Owner May 15, 2013
this would NEVER happen in 40K. why? its too brilliant and the Mechanicum is too minded to worship technology and blueprints to actually make new tech. that and the writters wont move the plot forward.
emprahsque23 Featured By Owner May 16, 2013
No if the IOM does something like get bits and pieces of different STC technologies like lets say the dreadknight and combine them all then you've got a battlesuit or what ever the IOM will call it like I dunno Harbinger
epicfaillol Featured By Owner May 19, 2013
I'd see those being called either Harbinger as you said or Reapers. now add the Imperium's love for melee weapons, you could get some massive new weaponry for the Marines. I can already see the UltraSmurfs loving to use those in "Steel Rain" deployments in drop pods then just go on a melee rampage on the Tau. I would love to see what the mechanicum would do if they would get their hands on the blueprints for the Railguns as well XD
emprahsque23 Featured By Owner May 20, 2013
Or maybe the mechanicum already has blueprints for rail guns but just won't use them
epicfaillol Featured By Owner May 28, 2013
That wouldnt surprise me because "ITS XENO-TECH, its HERESY" bullcrap.

Not enough skulls.

In WH40k you can never have enough skulls.
wrath9 Featured By Owner Nov 12, 2012
Would somewhat fit into the 40k universe but maybe you should give the Mecha more of a rugged look as if it had gone through countless battles, at least that would give it a certain veteran flare or old/ancient appearance...
spacewolflord Featured By Owner Oct 20, 2012
Well it seems that people have not seen the latest from the Adeptus Mechanicus, TARTAROS PATTERN TERMINATOR ARMOUR

Those have all sort of curvy much like the wonderfully done Suit of power armor above. I can so see some Inquisitor descending from the heavens purging the Heretics with this! This is a very well done piece. Keep up the great work in the name of the God Emperor.

The Imperium has MASSIVE amounts of technology that is to the common people is nothing but myth that he Priest of Mars keep to them selves. And things can look any way people with the money want. The only reason why most of it looks big and clunky is the fact that doing so is cheap and easy. When you have Trillions things to make, cheap and easy is the name of the game.
manoftron Featured By Owner Oct 8, 2012
Other than needing more skulls, scripts, and aguilas, it's somewhat okay for 40k other than it lacks the "how does this thing have the ability to be that agile" thing much human technology possesses.
049Observer Featured By Owner Oct 7, 2012
It looks like something the Ultramarines would end up designing if status quo wasn't god and they had to ally with the Tau. I have to echo sentiments it doesn't look 40k esque at all, in fact, I'm getting a maddox vibe from the design. Maybe its an STC (standard template construct) design from the dark age of technology.

Still very cool.
heavenly777protector Featured By Owner Sep 8, 2012
hate to be a bummer but that looks far more battletech than 40k. very nice job though!
EbolaBears Featured By Owner Jul 1, 2012
Looks awesome.
You have some of the iconography down, but the design isn't in harmony with the game's setting for the human factions.

Still, it is an awesome piece of art.

Incredible. the details and shape are glorious. :+fav:
Keydan Featured By Owner Jun 22, 2012
Looks a bit too high-tech. Not that WH40k isn't, i mean, looks like it's not 40k but 50k maybe, if mechanicus were lesser dicks.
EbolaBears Featured By Owner Jul 1, 2012
You mean less awesome:P
Keydan Featured By Owner Jul 1, 2012
They are both.
Pachycrocuta Featured By Owner Jun 20, 2012
Neat! In the franchise in question, the humans have a lot of kinda chunky WWI/WWIIish looking tech (with skulls all over it, which you've obviously noticed). Thus it's kinda cool to see a much more science fictiony take on how some of their stuff might look.
Jorga1974 Featured By Owner Jun 15, 2012
I love this!! I would very much like to see more along this line. Or if not that your take on Battletech would be awsome.
Amuscaria Featured By Owner Jun 17, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
There Was already a Battletech-y version of this made. Not as aggressive looking, though.

the Imperium already has those thing, their called space marines. XD
Taihus Featured By Owner Jun 13, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
If you had a few less skulls this might be a Tau battlesuit, but other than that it looks cool. If you wanted to go full-blown Imperium-style I'd recommend what the other people are saying. I won't repeat what's already been said better than I can say it!
frazamm Featured By Owner Jun 13, 2012
Faved for the novelty value. A good mech by all accounts.
feign Featured By Owner Jun 12, 2012
It's just a little bit Appleseed, a little bit Space Marine and a little bit Helldiver, an excellent blend of eastern and western designs that should indicate its own setting. Too bad Wahammer 40K will never officially be cool enough for this to be authentic.
Centurion13 Featured By Owner Jun 12, 2012
Oh, Eric. You made a wonderful suit but you broke the First Law of 40K: "You can never have too many skulls". I count only three. That's probably why everyone labels it 'advanced' and worse, 'not authentic':-)

I bet the customer was happy, though! Good work.
Amuscaria Featured By Owner Jun 12, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
Btw, did you ever finish the BT fan-TRO 3063?
Centurion13 Featured By Owner Jun 13, 2012
Karl Olson and Chris Daranouvong are finishing the polish on two last-minute changes. Otherwise, it is in the can. The art book (for contributors and artists), the TRO itself and the Record Sheets. They are all finished - there are several people looking them over right now but aside from dropping in the new art (and my paying the bill), they are ready for launch.

0 points for authenticity, but full credit for style.

Rule of thumb for Imperial Guard is that everything is World War I and II-inspired. Walkers from them are little more than walking gun or scout pods.

Rule of thumb for the Space Marines is that everything is World War I and Medieval/gothic inspired. Power Armor is deliberately designed to look like those of knights as opposed to high-tech mechsuits, hence why they use really distinct, bright colors and heraldry-inspired designs. Dreadnoughts are based off mausoleums and castle fortifications. The rest of what you've got as far as mechs go are Titans, which are half-Mechwarrior and half-castle.

There's more and more anime-inspired stuff breaking into 40k all the time, but so far there hasn't been anything that's had this sleek style outside the Tau. There could be a storyline involving some folks in the Imperium nabbing some Tau technology and trying to build something with it... aaaand they would be immediately branded as heretics.

If you wanted to re-visit this idea (not that you need to -- this is pretty damn cool) for a shot at authenticity, I'd have a look at Assault Marines and Terminators and see what you can do about combining their designs.
very nice but very macross.... very nice though. Do you have any good colorists? I'd like to see it colored :)
